Did you know your child can visit the Williams school garden once a month during lunch? Students enjoy fresh produce, explore nature, and take part in hands-on activities that spark curiosity and environmental stewardship. Thanks to our dedicated parent volunteers, the garden is a vibrant part of the Williams community! Sign up today to support this growing program and help nurture a lifelong love of gardening in our children.

WAYS TO PARTICIPATE:

Garden Club: Support our garden chairs with seasonal activities at our monthly garden club during lunch hour.

Garden Class Parent: Volunteer to be your designated garden classroom parent during class hours of your choice. Lesson plans and a garden bed are provided or you can come up with your own ideas!

Monthly Maintenance Volunteer: [adults only] Maintaining our garden is a huge undertaking. Volunteer for a designated role like weeding, pruning, or repairs on your own time. Or come to our monthly maintenance meet ups on Tuesday mornin

MEET OUR GARDEN CHAIRS

Kelly J.

I’m a mom of three boys—a freshman, a 7th grader, and a 4th grader—and I’ve been coordinating our school Garden Club since 2019. Gardening has always been a big part of my life. I grew up gardening with my mom, who actually ran my elementary school garden, so it feels pretty special to now share that love of gardening with the next generation.

I love getting my hands in the dirt at home, but my favorite part of gardening is getting kids outside and letting them dig, plant, taste, explore, and get a little messy! I love watching their faces light up when they discover where their food comes from or see a tiny seed turn into something beautiful. Whether we’re growing vegetables, picking flowers, or simply noticing the bugs and wildlife around us, I hope the garden gives kids a chance to slow down, explore nature, and grow a little along the way.

I’m thrilled to be stepping into my second year co-leading the Williams Elementary Garden Club, where I get to help create a space for students to learn, grow, and connect with nature.

I was born and raised in San Jose, not far from Williams. I spent much of my childhood helping my Italian grandparents and my mom in their gardens. Some of my fondest memories are rooted in the fruits of our labor—picking tomatoes, lemons, and basil, and enjoying delicious Sunday meals together.

Now, I spend most of my days sharing my love of gardening, playing, and enjoying meals in our backyard with my husband, our three children, and our two dogs.

I look forward to sharing my love of the outdoors with your children; after all, life is better with dirt under your nails.
